The Gemsbok is a very handsome animal, the most strikingly marked of all oryx. Overall color is a pale fawn gray. Gemsbok live in herds of about 10-40 animals, which consist of a dominant male, a few non-dominant males, and females. Gemsboks are about 4 feet 7 inches at the shoulder, and males can weigh between 510–550 pounds while females weigh 440–460 pounds. They can reach running speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.
